The Shawshank Redemption actor Morgan Freeman reportedly owns this huge ranch in Mississippi, a portion of which he decided to convert into a bee house. It might seem strange to some people that an actor as influential and talented as Morgan Freeman would decide to live a simple life in the countryside, but Freeman’s large estate is no ordinary property.

It sits on 24 acres of land, and among Freeman’s reasons for turning some of it into a bee house was because bee colonies have been vanishing in the county and he’s on a personal mission to save them. Indeed, in an interview with Jimmy Fallon back in 2014, Freeman shared that he has, to a huge degree, taken an interest in raising bees and in beekeeping in general. Freeman is said to have imported 26 beehives from Arkansas and brought them to his ranch for keeping.
